The Humane Society SPCA of Bexar County receives animals by appointment.
To make your visit as quick & easy as possible, please download and fill out the proper form before arriving at the shelter.
Appointments must be made because we do not euthanize animals for time or space. Our space becomes available through the previous day's adoptions, thus we can never predict how much space will be available on the next receiving day. To make an appointment, please call (210) 226-7461 at 8:30 a.m. on the day you wish to bring the animal in. If we have space, we will make an appointment for that same day for you to surrender the animal.
All animals must be at least 8 weeks old, weigh at least 2 pounds and must be eating dry food on their own. They must also be free of any nasal discharge, eye discharge, and hair loss. These symptoms indicate diseases that could be contagious to the rest of our animal population. We request a receiving fee at the time of surrender. While the fee is not required, it always helps offset the cost of their care while in the shelter. This fee is based on the animal's age, which will be determined by veterinary technicians, at the time of drop off.
8 weeks to 11 weeks - $5.00
12 weeks to 15 weeks - $15.00
16 weeks and over - $25.00
All animals will be vaccinated upon arrival and will be spayed or neutered before going home to their new owners. We screen adopters well, and try our best to make sure that every animal goes to a good home.
